Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has urged groups planning nationwide protests to provide their details to the Commissioners of Police in their respective states to ensure peaceful and orderly demonstrations.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Egbetokun emphasized that while the right to peaceful assembly and protest is constitutionally protected, proper coordination is crucial for maintaining public safety.

Protest organizers are asked to submit comprehensive information, including:

1. Proposed protest routes and assembly points

2. Expected duration of the protest

3. Names and contact details of protest leaders and organizers.

Egbetokun highlighted that this information will help the police deploy adequate personnel and resources to manage the protests effectively.

Additionally, organizers should outline measures to prevent the protests from being hijacked by criminal elements and identify potential troublemakers.

The IG also advised establishing clear communication channels with police to address any issues and reduce the risk of violence or property damage. He encouraged all participants to cooperate with law enforcement, adhere to legal guidelines, and follow best practices for peaceful assembly to ensure a safe and successful protest.
