Obaseki’s Economic Adviser, Asue Ighodalo, Admits Government Failure—Edo Cannot Afford More of the Same

In a stunning confession during his interview with BBC Pidgin, Asue Ighodalo, the man who served as Governor Godwin Obaseki’s economic adviser for the past eight years, openly admitted that the Edo State government has failed. Ighodalo pointed to the lack of basic amenities such as water and electricity, rampant insecurity, and widespread poverty as key indicators of this failure. Shockingly, he even acknowledged that farmers can no longer safely access their farms.

This admission from Ighodalo, the very person who was responsible for shaping the economic policies of the Obaseki administration, speaks volumes about the disastrous state of affairs in Edo. For eight years, Ighodalo was at the helm of the economic decisions that have now driven Edo State into a pit of despair. The fact that he is now distancing himself from the very government he helped to lead is a desperate attempt to escape accountability.

Let’s be clear: Asue Ighodalo is as culpable as Obaseki for the economic and social decline in Edo State. His attempt to now run for governor on the platform of “fixing” the problems he helped create is not only hypocritical but also insulting to the intelligence of the Edo people.

The facts speak for themselves:

1. Widespread Poverty: Under the watch of Obaseki and Ighodalo, Edo State has seen a significant increase in poverty levels. Despite promises of economic revitalization, the state’s economy has deteriorated, leaving many Edo citizens struggling to make ends meet.

2. Lack of Basic Amenities: Ighodalo admitted there’s no water and no light in Edo State. These are basic needs that any competent government should prioritize, yet under the guidance of Obaseki and Ighodalo, these essentials have been neglected.

3. Escalating Insecurity: The fact that farmers can’t even go to their farms due to insecurity is a glaring failure of governance. The Obaseki administration, with Ighodalo as a key adviser, has failed to protect its citizens, allowing insecurity to spread unchecked across the state.

4. Failure to Deliver on Promises: Ighodalo’s own words are a damning indictment of the Obaseki administration’s inability to deliver on its promises.

The people of Edo State deserve better than recycled failures. Asue Ighodalo’s admission is a clear warning that electing him would mean more of the same disastrous policies that have crippled the state.

The APC and its candidates, Senator Monday Okpebholo and Hon. Dennis Idahosa, offer a real and viable alternative—a chance to rebuild Edo State with strong leadership and a commitment to the people.

The future of Edo is in your hands. Reject the failures of the past. Reject Asue Ighodalo.
