Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has commended the management and Governing Council of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), for developing the university to enviable heights within 11 years of its establishment.

Governor Oyebanji made this remark while receiving members of the University’s Governing Council, led by its chairman, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, and the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Fasina, at the Governor’s office in Ado Ekiti.

The Governor also praised the institution for championing academic excellence among over 280 public universities in the country.

He expressed confidence that FUOYE, under the leadership of Senator Ndoma-Egba, would continue to excel. He further noted his admiration for the accomplishments of the university’s staff and students in academics and research.

Governor Oyebanji emphasized that the state government would continue to support the university’s infrastructure development efforts, aimed at positioning it as one of the leading institutions of higher learning.

Speaking about his administration’s education policy, the Governor highlighted plans to translate the state’s comparative advantage in education into wealth creation, in line with the administration’s shared prosperity agenda.

He stated that this vision informed the significant investments in learning facilities across primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions in the state.

The Governor also commended Senator Ndoma-Egba for his impactful contributions during his tenure in the National Assembly and for his exceptional service to national development as an accomplished lawyer, politician, and public servant.

According to Governor Oyebanji:
“When you were in the Seventh Senate, you were one of the few senators I admired for the depth of your contributions on the Senate floor and the exemplary leadership you demonstrated. You remain a leader I have great respect for.

“I must congratulate FUOYE for having you as its Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council. I also commend the President for appointing a capable and fitting person to lead the university’s council.

“As I often say, Ekiti State has the highest number of PhD holders per capita in the country. Our challenge as a government is to translate this academic excellence into wealth creation for our people. We must ensure that academic achievements solve real problems for Ekiti and bring tangible benefits to the state and its people.

“I assure you that we will collaborate with you to achieve the lasting legacies you envision. Regarding the issues you raised, particularly the Certificate of Occupancy, the state will address them immediately. We will also act on the request for fencing. Work has already begun on the road from Oye to Are Ekiti.”

Earlier, the Chairman of the University Council, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, commended the hospitality of the Ekiti people, noting that their warmth had been instrumental in the university’s remarkable growth and development.

Senator Ndoma-Egba also lauded Governor Oyebanji for his achievements in health, education, infrastructure, agriculture, and other sectors, noting that the Governor was delivering results quietly yet effectively.

“Your Excellency, let me congratulate you once again. You are making significant strides in education, agriculture, infrastructure, health, and other sectors, all with very little noise,” he said.

The Pro-Chancellor further pledged to stabilize the university’s academic calendar during his tenure, urging unions to follow relevant laws in managing grievances.
