President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of the Nigerian military, describing the Armed Forces as the nation’s heroes.
The President made this declaration during the commissioning of the newly constructed Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks and other facilities under the Nigerian Army Special Projects in Abuja.
“You are our heroes, and I thank you for what you have been doing for this country,” President Tinubu stated, emphasising the remarkable service of the Nigerian military in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and security.
Highlighting the federal government’s commitment to enhancing military welfare, the President noted that the barracks project was a reflection of his administration’s dedication to ensuring adequate support for troops and their families.
“The only way to appreciate your sacrifices is to continue to show support to the men and women in uniform. Knowing that the federal government is always ready to provide what the troops need is essential for winning battles,” he said.
The newly commissioned Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks, completed on January 9, 5, is designed to alleviate the acute shortage of living accommodations for personnel serving in Abuja.
The facility includes 16 Major Generals’ Quarters, 34 Brigadier Generals’ Quarters, 60 Major-Colonel Flats, 60 Lieutenant-Captain Flats, and 180 Senior Non-Commissioned Officers’ Flats.
Additionally, it provides 264 Corporal and Below Flats, worship centres, sports facilities, and a power house, all within a secure perimeter with three entrance gates.
The project, initiated by Major General Philip Eromosele on November 26, 2022, was fully funded by the late Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, and completed by the current Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede.
President Tinubu underscored that providing comfortable living conditions for military personnel was central to his administration’s broader vision of enhancing military welfare. “We will not compromise on the welfare of our troops. Their well-being is a priority, as they continue to sacrifice so much to keep Nigeria safe,” he affirmed.
The event was attended by high-ranking officials, including National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, Defence Minister Badaru Abubakar, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas. Other dignitaries included service chiefs, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede.
Earlier in the day, President Tinubu performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Armed Forces Complex in Asokoro, Abuja.
The complex, situated behind Lungi Barracks, further reflects the administration’s commitment to modernising infrastructure for the Nigerian military.
