The color of my baby’s stool

As a new mother, I am a bit worried about the color of my baby’s stool. Although it was a bit dark when he was born, the color has now changed to brown after just few weeks old. Kindly advise me on what to do.

An infant’s poop typically changes color and consistency during the first few days, weeks, and months of life. A wide range of colors is usual. In infants, the main reasons for changes in stool color are age, diet, and health. The poop of newborns is almost black, while older infants tend to have yellow or brown poop.

Breast milk and formula can also influence the color of a baby’s stools. Red or white poop can indicate a health problem. Otherwise, a wide range of colors is typical. Anyone who suspects that a baby has diarrhea or constipation should seek medical advice.
