The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Katsina State has reacted to a slip of the tongue by the Governor of the state, Dikko Raddah, saying the gaffe is a testament to the party’s victory in the last 2023 general elections.

Raddah, who has been a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) since 2014 and the incumbent on the platform of the party, made the slip at a mega rally, to present flags to APC chairmanship and councillorship candidates for the forthcoming local government elections in the state held in Ingawa town, Katsina on Sunday.

“I want to assure our president, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that Katsina is a PDP state and will continue to be a PDP state”, Radda declared before Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the APC National Chairman, and other party bigwigs from various parts of the country and across the 34 LGAs of the state,” Governor Raddah at the flag-off.

The PDP, in a release to newsmen signed by the party’s State Chairman, Alhaji Nura Amadi Kurfi, claimed the PDP’s victory was muscled and seized by the APC-led government in Katsina State under the leadership of Aminu Bello Masari for the incumbent administration.

Kurfi said, “Truths shall always prevail.” He added that the people are now living witnesses that Malam Dikko Radda is saying and testifying the truth to both President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and in the presence of the APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, that “Katsina State is a PDP State and shall forever remain PDP state.”

He stated that the PDP in Katsina State received with appreciation the courageous and sincere reminder by Governor Dikko Radda that Katsina State is a PDP state, noting that the governor was only saying the obvious.

“Recall that since 1999, Katsina State was never governed by any person who is not a PDP man. Both Governor Umaru Musa Yar’adua of blessed memory who later became President, Dr. Ibrahim Shema, Rt. Hon Aminu Masari and Governor Radda, who among them is not a PDP man? None.

“As recent as in the 2023 general elections, PDP was the winner in the presidential election and we all know what happened in the Gubernatorial election.

“Therefore, when Governor Radda said Katsina is and will continue to be a PDP state, he was only communicating the true feelings and aspirations of Katsinawa and Daurawa.

“As their Governor, he ought to know best. And there’s no better place to say it than in the presence of the APC National Chairman.”

While the governor’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Kaula, had claimed that it was a slip of the tongue, the PDP insisted that Governor Malam Dikko Radda was saying the truth.

“Let the government start to do the right thing by providing purposeful leadership where the citizens can be safe and enjoy the dividends of democracy as they were used to, during the Golden era of PDP government,” Kurfi added.
