Kano Police Command has contradicted the state government’s claim that there was no security threat, affirming that a planned terrorist attack on the Tijjaniya Maulud celebration in Kano was real.

According to Police Commissioner Salman Dogo Garba, the command received intelligence reports of a planned attack and took swift action to ensure the event was conducted peacefully.

The police commissioner revealed that the mastermind behind the planned attack was a foreign national with a history of violence.

The police command’s assertion contradicts the state government’s stance that the alleged terrorist attack was “fake news.” Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf had described the police alert as baseless, claiming that the state was peaceful and that there was no evidence of an impending terrorist attack.

However, the police command’s actions and discoveries suggest that the threat was real and that the police took necessary steps to prevent a potentially disastrous outcome.

The incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in the region and the need for effective communication and cooperation between law enforcement agencies and state governments.
