The Yobe State Government has advocated for robust resource mobilisation to effectively tackle the pressing challenges confronting the Lake Chad Basin, including the Boko Haram insurgency.

Speaking to journalists in Maiduguri on Monday, Baba Mallum Wali, Secretary to the Yobe State Government and Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, made the call, noting that the region has already adopted a regional strategy for stabilisation, recovery and resilience.

He urged stakeholders to forge actionable partnerships, align strategies, and mobilise resources to effectively counter the evolving challenges facing the region.

According to him, Nigeria has consistently played a leading role in promoting stabilisation, recovery, and development within the Lake Chad Basin region.

He cited various initiatives undertaken by the country, including the development of Territorial Action Plans (TAPs) and the RS-SRR, as evidence of Nigeria’s dedication to addressing security challenges, fostering regional cooperation, and promoting peacebuilding and sustainable development.

He emphasised that the forum would serve as a crucial platform for stakeholders to explore innovative solutions and consolidate gains in peace, cross-border cooperation, security, and sustainable development for a resilient community.

The 5th edition of the Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum will focus on the theme: “Rebuilding the Lake Chad Basin: Addressing the evolving challenges of the region,” aiming to align efforts with the humanitarian-development-peace nexus.

Wali stated, “The Yobe State Government, under the leadership of Governor Buni, is proud to host this event and to reinforce our shared commitment to stabilisation, recovery, and resilience in a region that has been ravaged by terrorist activities.

“Yobe State’s commitment to hosting the forum demonstrates our resolute dedication to the principles of regional cooperation and sustainable development. It is also a testament to the state’s collaborative efforts and partnerships to promote peace, security, and prosperity across the Lake Chad Basin region.

“The LOC, in collaboration with the LCBC and UNDP, has been diligently coordinating all aspects of the forum. I am pleased to report that significant progress has been made across key areas, including logistics and venues/accommodations, which will be under 24-hour security coverage throughout the event, with dedicated patrol teams and access control protocols,” he explained.
