The National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Julius Abure, along with some state chairmen of the party, met in Abuja on Tuesday, where discussions focused on uniting the party for the national interest.

Abure, while addressing the meeting, urged the chairmen to prioritize national interests over what he referred to as parochial issues.

A statement released by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Obiora Ifoh, stated that the meeting, held at the party’s national secretariat in Utako, Abuja, also commended the judiciary “for always standing on the path of justice.”

The session also emphasized the need for reconciliation among all aggrieved parties.

Abure said, “There is no family without disagreement, and there is no political party without its own disagreements. However, the ability to come together after those disagreements is what is most important.”

“It is often said that it doesn’t matter how many times a man falls, but what is most important is how he manages to get up each time he falls and continues the journey. In other words, it doesn’t matter the level of disagreements or fights; what matters is our ability to come together, resolve our differences, and move the party forward.”

“So, we are open to reconciliation, and we are ready to resolve all our differences and move the party forward.”

“The interest of the party and the nation supersedes all other parochial interests. I want you to be conscious of the fact that the interest of the party and the interest of the nation supersede every other interest.”

“With this in mind, I believe we will be able to come together and create a more formidable party for the future of the country.”

“I also want to appreciate the judiciary for standing on the path of justice and for upholding the rule of law. I want to thank all the justices, from the Federal High Court to the Court of Appeal, for doing justice. I believe the courts will continue to uphold justice in the Labour Party’s cases.”

“I want to appreciate the state chairmen for standing firmly by us. We have drawn a lot of strength from you. Your support has given us the courage and determination to continue the fight. You are the ones who have given us the strength to weather the storm. Just as you draw inspiration from us, we also draw inspiration from you.”

“I want to assure you that better days are ahead, and that success will ultimately be ours. There will be light at the end of the tunnel.”

The Chairman of the Enugu state chapter, Dr. Casmir Agbo, spoke on behalf of his colleagues, according to the release by Ifoh, praising the efforts made so far to resolve the challenges faced by the LP.

“We are using this opportunity to appreciate the judiciary for positively addressing the challenges with proper interpretation of the Nigerian constitution, the electoral law, and the party’s constitution.”

“We are, however, calling on our brothers to sheathe their swords and join hands with the Abure leadership to reposition the party,” the statement further quoted him as saying.
