The Nigeria Police Force high Command on Thursday, disclosed that the Force was investigating 5,877 vehicles with conflicting registration information in the database of its electronic Central Motor Registry (e-CMR) system.
Force Public Relations Officer, FPRO, Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi disclosed this to newsmen in Abuja on the police’s plan to commence enforcement of the electronic Central Motor Registry (e-CMR) system.
According to him, “e-CMR is a digitalized repository of licensed motor vehicles in the country, as provided for in the law.
“As part of the relentless efforts towards combating vehicle-related crimes, the force wishes to announce recent successful operations.
ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi explained that the operations had led to the recovery of 1,519 stolen vehicles, in 2024 and had since the beginning of 2025 recovered 52 utilizing the e-CMR system.
According to him, over 400,000 vehicles had been registered into the e-CMR database by genuine vehicle owners who had provided their vehicle information.
He added that the database had received 1,011 reports of stolen vehicles, adding that, three vehicles, reported as stolen on the platform were recovered in different parts of the country in October 2024.
He said the 1,011 vehicles, reported as stolen on the platform were currently being investigated..
The FPRO who said that the successes were possible following the cooperation of the public, taking advantage of the e-CMR portal pointed out that the emplacement of e-policing strategies, the Police Rescue Me App, Police VGS emergency App and the reactivation of the e-CMR were to curb vehicle-related crimes in the country.
He further added that the idea was to enhance the Nigeria Police crime-fighting capabilities through the integration of electronic and Information Communication Technology (ICT) and create an effective policing system.
According to him, “To assist Nigerians verify the status of a vehicle, a module that uses USSD functionality is being developed and will be deployed as soon as connectivity with mobile Telecom operators is concluded.

He gave an instant case for, a Toyota Highlander stolen in 2021 (4 years ago) which was recovered by the Police last week in Enugu State and is presently in Police custody in Abuja the owner was present to attest to the police claim.
“The vehicle was stolen on 13th January 2021. Two years later, the rightful owner learned about the Nigeria Police’s Stolen Vehicle Report Portal https://reportcmr.npf.gov.ng and reported the theft.
“The vehicle was sold to a buyer in Kano who decided to provide the vehicle details to the Police through the E-CMR portal and obtain a certificate to that effect. In the process, the system flagged it as Stolen based on the earlier report. Investigation led to the recovery of the vehicle in Enugu State.
“The seller/receiver and buyer will have their date in Court soon. The owner is right here with us and has gladly opted to speak to the Press about his experience.”
He said that the IGP Dr Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has reiterated that the Nigeria Police Force would continue to invest in and adopt modern technological solutions to combat crime effectively.
“As we move forward, our focus remains on using every available tool to ensure the safety of our citizens and protect their properties. The Force encourages citizens to take advantage of these technological advancements and report any suspicious activities to aid in our collective fight against crime,” he added.
