Jigawa State Command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has confirmed that no fatality was recorded in a petrol tanker explosion that occurred on Thursday night at Shakkato Filling Station in Dutse, state capital.

Spokesperson of the Command, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, in a statement, said the incident happened around 7:00 PM on January 30, 2025, along Kiyawa Road near the Takur Adua area of Dutse metropolis.

Upon receiving the report, a team of policemen led by the Divisional Police Officer in Dutse rushed to the scene, alongside personnel from the Dutse International Airport and state and federal fire services.

“The fire was successfully extinguished through the combined efforts of firefighters and good Samaritans,” Shiisu said, adding that security operatives cordoned off the area to prevent any criminal activity.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the fire broke out while petroleum products were being transferred from the tanker into an underground tank, quickly escalating beyond the control of filling station operators.
