The Edo State Police Command on Thursday announced the arrest of two suspected cultists for the attempted murder of a rival cult member.

The victim, identified as Egiegbor Lucky, aged 29, was reportedly attacked in the Irrua community, Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo State, on January 14.

The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Moses Yamu, confirmed the incident in a statement.

According to the PPRO, the suspects—20-year-old Aigbomian Daniel and 32-year-old Innocent Okiomisi—are believed to be members of the Eiye Confraternity. They allegedly shot the victim with the intent to kill him.

Yamu stated that the suspects, who are currently in police custody, confessed to being members of a secret cult.

“One locally made pistol and one live cartridge were recovered from the suspects. I can confirm that the suspects have been arrested and are in custody.

“During interrogation, they confessed to being members of a cult group. They will be charged to court soon,” Yamu said.

A source revealed that the suspects had trailed the victim, who is also allegedly a cult member, and shot him.

The victim reportedly sustained an injury to his right arm during the attack. The suspects fled the scene after firing the shot, leaving the victim for dead.

However, the victim, unaware he was being followed, narrowly escaped death and later reported the incident at the police station in Irrua.

The shooting is believed to have been a result of clashes between rival cult groups in the area.
