The Alawe of Ilawe-Ekiti, Oba Adebanji Alabi, has lamented the growing poor service being rendered by the leading telecom service provider in the community.

The monarch, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Chief Ajibade Olubunmi, on Saturday, said the companies should focus on improving their services rather than contemplating a 50% increase in tariff.

Oba Alabi, a former chairman of the state council of traditional rulers, disclosed that there is no justification for the increase in telecom tariff, adding that customers in the country are not enjoying quality services from the companies.

According to the statement, “We observed that many communities in Nigeria could be agonizing under the same poor services being rendered by this provider to his people, asking: what is the justification for tariff increase for poor services?

“No one would quarrel with any company who asks for more money when providing fantastic services to customers but it will be an extortion to increase tariffs for poor services.”

While lamenting the plight of citizens in his community, the revered traditional ruler argued that the service providers should match their costs with good services.

Oba Alabi further “frowned at the poor services being rendered to his community by one of the telecommunication giants, for over a month now which prompted the monarch to personally sign two letters on behalf of his community, Ilawe-Ekiti, to the MTN to rectify the horrible situation. It is quite surprising and most disappointing that the problem still persists to date.”

He appealed to the National Communication Commission (NCC) to be alive to its regulatory functions towards ensuring that consumers witness quality service from the companies.
