The management of Redeemer’s University (RUN), Ede, Osun State, has debunked reports of a fire outbreak on its campus.

Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Shadrach Olufemi Akindele disclosed this in a statement issued by the university’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Adetunji Adeleye, revealed that the students and their hostel were not endangered by the fire, which was a case of bush burning near an isolated bamboo forest.

Akindele said that the fire was promptly extinguished by stakeholders in the university community and the State Fire Service.

Expressing displeasure over the fake news, the VC insisted that there was no explosion of any transformer, as there was no transformer at the site of the fire incident.

He allayed fears of stakeholders over a rumour going around that there was a fire outbreak that threatened lives and property on campus around 8: 45 p.m. on Monday, saying that it was a case of bush burning near an isolated bamboo forest which was promptly quenched by stakeholders in the University community and the State Fire Service.

He said, “The fire was a case of bush burning near an isolated bamboo forest, which was promptly extinguished by stakeholders in the university community and the State Fire Service.

“There was no explosion of any transformer, as there was no transformer at the site of the fire incident.”

He explained that the university prioritises the public health and safety of its stakeholders, which has led to the acquisition of a large quantity of fire extinguishers.

“People should always cross-check the facts in order to avoid being misled by rumour-mongers whose business is to cause disaffection and destabilisation,” he said.
