The Delta State Police Command has strongly refuted allegations of a N2.186 million extortion made by Mrs Gladys Ubogu Okeoghene.

In a press statement issued on 28th January 2025 by SP Bright Edafe, the Police labelled the accusations as false, misleading, and a calculated attempt to evade justice and garner public sympathy.

According to the Police, the matter began on 22nd October 2024 when Mrs Okeoghene lodged a petition with the Warri Area Commander, claiming a car dealer had fraudulently sold two Mercedes Benz vehicles—one involved in an accident—and absconded with the proceeds.

A thorough investigation led to the arrest of six suspects across Lagos and Abuja.

The Police revealed that one suspect, David Solomon, was charged with fraudulent conversion, while the vehicles were traced and partially recovered.

Evidence showed that proceeds from the sale of one vehicle, a Mercedes Benz GLK, were transferred to Mrs Okeoghene’s son, Highness Onoruikpe.

This contradicted her initial claims, prompting further investigation.

The Police confirmed that the second vehicle, a Mercedes Benz C400, was returned to the station after Mrs Okeoghene abandoned the case.

Edafe quoted Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, as emphasising that no money was extorted from Mrs Okeoghene and urged the media to verify facts before publishing unsubstantiated claims.
