The Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Sen. Sunday Karimi, says the nation’s economic challenges are not a creation of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, pointing out that they were problems he inherited from successive administrations.

Sen. Karimi explained that until the coming of the present administration of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, the economic situation was so bad that the country had to resort to printing the naira to run the economy.

Sen. Karimi made the disclosure while inspecting the Lokoja fish market, which had been moribund for the last seven years and was rehabilitated at the cost of N11m. He expressed optimism that the country will soon come out of the woods.

He added that unlike in the past, the country no longer prints naira to run the economy, lamenting that in times past, many sharp economic practices led to the collapse of the country’s economy.

Sen. Karimi added that aside from a collapsed economy, President Tinubu also inherited the problem of insecurity that had been with the country since 1999, expressing optimism that the President is now more definite in fighting insecurity.

“With the result from the North East, the war on fighting insecurity is being realised. We in the Senate recently discovered that what we lack was synergy, but I’m happy that the President is working on that by deploying technology and communication to fight against insecurity.”

Sen. Karimi expressed joy that he is able to impact the lives of the people, pointing out that in just a year and a half in the Senate, he has been able to revitalise the cold room at the Lokoja Fish Market that has been moribund for seven years.

Sen. Karimi described his representation as made possible by his fear of God and the need to hold in trust the people’s mandate.

“The fear of God and holding the position in trust for the people with the motive that you must be accountable to God and the people has been my guiding principle. I want a situation where if I meet my creator, I will be able to explain what I have used the mandate for, which is why I’m doing my best in service to my people.”

“Within my one year and a half of representation, we are sinking motorised boreholes numbering about 140 across the district. We recently provided a hundred million naira bursary for 1,000 students in tertiary institutions. We have also empowered women cooperatives with another N100m. Presently, we are expecting the deployment of transformers and solar streetlights to be installed in different locations across the district. We also visited Kupa following a boat mishap. I donated another N10m as support to the community. I’m glad to let you know that through my personal donation of N23m, the collapsed bridge in Kiri is nearing completion. I believe that our work will speak for us,” Sen. Karimi said.
