The Federal Government has announced plans to equip one million Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) with digital resources to boost economic growth and create jobs for teeming youths in the country.

Vice President, Sen. Kashim Shettima, disclosed this in Maiduguri on Tuesday during the 6th Expanded National MSME Clinics.

The programme is a collaboration between the Presidency and the Borno State Government.

He noted that MSMEs are the backbone of the economy, comprising over 96 per cent of businesses and employers.

According to him, MSMEs require accessible capital, skills development, and an enabling environment. The Federal Government, he said, is committed to supporting their ambitious ideas and transforming them into flourishing enterprises.

The VP announced an unconditional grant of N300,000 to each outstanding MSME present at the event, stating that the FG will continue to create up to 48,000 jobs annually.

Shettima observed that Nigerian women and young men possess the resilience to succeed in business.

“The government’s vision is to empower over two million Nigerian youths and one million MSMEs with digital resources crucial for navigating today’s tech-driven economy,” he said. “It is also part of the government’s continued determination to create more job opportunities for all.”

He also announced that Wema Bank has partnered with the government to support the operations of the MSMEs and welcomed all private sector collaborations in the endeavour to revitalise the economy.

Speaking, Borno Governor Babagana Umara Zulum commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for their continued support for the state government in restoring hope for vulnerable persons in the state.

He said the state government is always ready to collaborate with the FG to bring development to the people as the state is now recovering from over a decade of Boko Haram insurgency.

He advised small and medium businesses to be determined in their efforts to earn a livelihood for themselves and other people in the state.

The Vice President was accompanied by APC National Chairman, Umar Ganduje; Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari; Minister of State for Industry, Sen. John Owan Enoh; and Senior Special Assistant to the President on Job Creation and MSME, among other dignitaries.
