Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA) in Niger is set to hold its 33rd convocation ceremony and 42nd Founders’ Day, with a series of activities lined up to mark the occasion.
The Vice Chandelier, Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta, Stated this on Monday at a Pre- Pre-Convocation Press briefing held in the Conference Hall of the Academic Publishing Centre of the university, Main Campus, Gidan Kwano Minna, highlighting that the Convocation will confer first degrees, postgraduate diplomas, higher degrees, honorary degrees, and prizes on deserving graduates.
Prof. Kuta said, “We are graduating a total of 5,816 students for the 2023/2024 academic session, comprising 4,955 undergraduates, 632 master’s degree graduates, 105 postgraduate diploma recipients, and 124 PhD holders,”
He further disclosed that the graduands comprise 119 first-class, 1,431 second-class upper, 2,341 second-class lower, 972 third-class, and 92 pass degrees.
He stressed that the convocation ceremony would confer first degrees, postgraduate diplomas, higher degrees, honorary degrees, and prizes on deserving graduates.
According to the VC, FUT Minna, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, “the university has also introduced 13 new academic programs, which he noted have been endorsed by the National Universities Commission (NUC), emphasising that these programmes include Data Science, Software Engineering, Public Health, and Forensic Science, among others.
Prof. Kuta stressed that the university has made significant strides in research and innovation, establishing partnerships with local and international organizations.
“We have partnered with institutions such as Montana Technology University, USA, and University of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa, Ghana, to enhance our research capabilities and provide opportunities for staff and students,” he declared.
He noted that the university has also invested in digitalization, implementing e-learning platforms to enhance teaching and learning.
In the area of staff development, Prof. Kuta announced that 94 study fellowships had been awarded, while 112 staff members had been sponsored to attend workshops and conferences.
He said that the convocation ceremony will take place on February 1, 2025, at the Suleiman Kumo Convocation Square, Main Campus, Gidan Kwano.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that other activities lined up for the celebration include a special Juma’at prayer, interdenominational church service, Chancellor’s Cup Football Competition, Scientific Research Exhibition, and commissioning of completed projects.
The Vice-Chancellor thereby expressed his gratitude to the university community, partners, and stakeholders for their support and cooperation.
Accordingly, he said, “We are proud of our achievements and look forward to continuing to provide quality education and research opportunities to our students and staff”.
Prof Kuta noted that the university’s commitment to excellence has earned it recognition as one of the leading institutions of technology in Nigeria, saying, that “as part of the celebration, the university will also honor deserving individuals with honorary degrees and prizes”.
