The Bauchi State Government has launched a scathing attack on the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, describing his tenure as “nothing short of disastrous” and a “legacy of failure” in the Foreign Ministry.

The government’s Chief of Staff, Dr. Aminu Hassan Gamawa, made the remarks in response to Tuggar’s recent criticism of Governor Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir on Channels TV.

Gamawa accused Tuggar of overseeing the collapse of Nigeria’s relationships with its Sahelian neighbors, exacerbating insecurity along the border, and suffering severe diplomatic setbacks, including an embarrassing visa ban by the United Arab Emirates.

The Chief of Staff also criticised Tuggar’s alignment with neocolonial powers, particularly France, which has alienated nations fighting against French dominance in Africa.

“Nigeria suffered severe diplomatic setbacks under Tuggar, including the embarrassing visa ban and subsequent equivocations by the United Arab Emirates. His inability to resolve these issues highlights his failure as a foreign minister.”

Gamawa described Tuggar’s attacks on Governor Mohammed as desperate and futile, motivated by his ambition to contest the Bauchi governorship in 2027.

Gamawa highlighted Governor Mohammed’s transformative leadership, which has created thousands of jobs and empowered farmers and youth through innovative programmes.
