For Lagos, one of Africa’s largest economic hubs, security is not merely a law enforcement responsibility; it is a strategic investment in economic growth, investor confidence, social stability and human development. Recognising this reality, the Lagos State Government has, over the years, deliberately built one of the country’s most robust public security support systems, ensuring that security agencies are not only empowered to respond to threats but are also equipped to protect those who daily put their lives on the line for millions of residents.

Under the administration of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) has continued to deepen that partnership by providing critical operational logistics, equipment and welfare support to security agencies safeguarding Nigeria’s commercial capital. From patrol vehicles and communication equipment to specialized operational assets and protective gear, the Fund has remained at the forefront of strengthening the capacity of law enforcement institutions, reinforcing Lagos’ reputation as the most secure, safest and investment-friendly state in the country.
The latest presentation of bulletproof vests, ballistic helmets and raincoats to the Lagos State Strategic Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) is another demonstration of the Gov. Sanwo-Olu administration’s unwavering commitment to building a security architecture that is proactive, collaborative and adequately resourced to confront emerging threats.
During the official visit by the Executive Secretary/CEO of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund LSSTF, Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan, to the NDLEA Lagos State Strategic Command, assured the Assistant Commander General of Narcotics, ACGN Wali Liman Abubakar and the officers of the commitment of Lagos State Government to their safety, welfare and operational effectiveness in their efforts to combat drug trafficking and abuse across the state.
Addressing officers of the Command, Dr. Ogunsan commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for providing the leadership and political will behind the state’s sustained investment in security. “Let me commend the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Gov. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, in whose authority I am here today. He is the brain behind all that we do for security agencies in Lagos. I want to say that my visit here is to celebrate the best. I am celebrating the best Governor as far as security is concerned in Nigeria. I want to use this platform to say, Lagos is the best and the safest state in the country.”
The LSSTF CEO also praised the leadership of the Lagos NDLEA Commander, ACGN Wali, describing the Command as one of the finest in the country. “I also celebrate the best NDLEA Command in Nigeria and ACGN Liman Wali. Since his assumption of office, we have recorded a lot of outstanding things he has done. The energy with which he does his work brought me here. You are playing a very crucial role within the Lagos security ecosystem every day. We are very happy to work with you.”
Explaining the rationale behind the donation, Ogunsan said the protective equipment was intended to safeguard officers while enhancing operational efficiency. “We have come to offer these bulletproof vests, ballistic helmets and raincoats so that you can do more and achieve more. This will help you on your regular patrol. We want all the vital organs of our officers to be protected. Please make good use of all these items; we are open for further consultation.”
He also delivered a firm warning to criminal elements operating within and around Lagos. “This is a warning to all and sundry, especially those who want to cause a crisis, Lagos is not vacant. We are not going to accept anything short of safety. Lagos is safe. Lagos is security conscious. Lagos will not harbour criminals. We are monitoring activities on land, at sea and in the air.”
Responding, the Commander of the NDLEA Lagos State Strategic Command, Assistant Commander General of Narcotics, ACGN Abubakar Liman Wali, expressed profound appreciation to the Lagos State Government and the LSSTF for the timely intervention. “I want to thank Gov. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and also the LSSTF CEO, Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan, for coming to our office and for the donations of these bulletproof vests, ballistic helmets and even 100 raincoats, which will really enhance the safety and welfare of our officers, especially in the rainy season that we are in.”
He also presented a special souvenir to the LSSTF CEO, Dr. Ogunsan, even as he reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intensifying the fight against illicit drugs through both enforcement and public enlightenment. “I want to assure Lagos State that we at the NDLEA are ready to strengthen advocacy and, in whatever form we can, reduce drug trafficking and drug abuse in our society.”
The presentation underscored a security philosophy that places equal emphasis on officer protection and operational effectiveness. By investing in the welfare and safety of frontline personnel while strengthening strategic partnerships with agencies such as the NDLEA, the Lagos State Government continues to demonstrate that sustainable security is built not only on enforcement but also on preparedness, collaboration and unwavering institutional support. In a city that remains Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre and one of Africa’s foremost economic hubs, such investments are indispensable to preserving public safety, economic confidence and social stability.
