The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Zamfara State, has commended the allocation of N2.9 billion by the 14 local government councils (LGAs) of the state for child support in the 2025 budget.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the NAWOJ Chairperson, Comrade Jamila Musa Kanoma, described the N2.9 billion allocation as a positive development and welcomed the news.

“This is a welcome development and the happiest moment for NAWOJ members who are constantly advocating for the improved welfare of women and children in the state,” she said.

Kanoma further emphasized that the initiative would significantly support vulnerable families, particularly women and children, in Zamfara.

She called on the State House of Assembly to consider and approve the proposed budget allocations from the 14 local government councils to tackle child poverty.

Additionally, she praised Governor Dauda Lawal for providing a conducive environment and the necessary support for local government officials to effectively implement such beneficial programs.

It is worth noting that in 2023, UNICEF and the National Bureau of Statistics ranked Zamfara State sixth in the nation for having a high rate of multidimensional child poverty.
