Ademola Adeleke jokes about his son’s choice of bride

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, delivered a heartfelt speech at the traditional wedding ceremony of his son, Gbolahan, and his bride, Damilola Adio.

The event, which was held last weekend in Lagos, drew attention after a video of the governor’s remarks went viral on social media.

In the clip from the wedding which started trending on Tuesday, Adeleke recounted his long-standing conversations with his son about settling down, noting that Gbolahan often responded playfully that he was still “testing”.

The governor, who is an uncle to Afrobeats star Davido, said he had closely observed his son’s relationships over the years and realised that they both shared the same taste in women.

According to him, he always knew the ladies his son previously brought home were not the right match until the day Gbolahan introduced Damilola.

Adeleke thanked the bride’s family for accepting his son and entrusting their daughter to the Adeleke family.

“Adio family, we set a date, and it came to pass. All the phone calls, the visits to London to greet you and tell you that we wanted to marry this lady. My son, Gbolahan, and I had discussed for a long time when he was going to bring home a wife. He told me, ‘Daddy, I’m still testing,’ and I asked him how many times he was going to test,” he said.

“I had been studying my son whenever he brought someone home, and I discovered that we have the same spec. Whenever he brought any woman, I would say, ‘This isn’t your spec,’ and he would say he knew. I would then tell him to go and bring his spec.

He added that the moment his son brought Damilola home, he was convinced he had found the right partner.

“The day he brought home Damilola, I hugged him and said, ‘That’s it.’ So, I declare today that this is the day the Lord has made, and we shall all rejoice. Adio family, I want to thank you for accepting us to marry your daughter. You know your daughter was fresh when we came to marry her, and we will take care of her.”
