Police arrest 3 Kano murder suspects for killing woman, 6 ki

The Kano State Police Command has arrested three principal suspects in connection with the killing of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters of the Kano metropolis.

The arrests followed intelligence-led and coordinated operations carried out between the night of January 17 and the early hours of Sunday, January 18, 2026.

In a statement released on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, said the arrests were made on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and under the supervision of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.

“The Kano State Police Command, leveraging intelligence-led policing, has successfully arrested three principal suspects behind the gruesome murder of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters,” Kiyawa said.

According to the police, a nephew of the deceased woman, confessed to masterminding the attack and leading the syndicate responsible for the killings.

“The principal suspect confessed to the crime and admitted that the same syndicate has been involved in a series of violent attacks and killings in parts of the Kano metropolis,” the police spokesperson added.

Items recovered from the suspects include four pieces of clothing with suspected bloodstains, two mobile phones belonging to the deceased, a cutlass, a club, and an undisclosed amount of money allegedly stolen from the scene.

Kiyawa said the investigation was ongoing to uncover further details and arrest other possible accomplices.

The arrests followed widespread outrage over the killing of Fatima Abubakar and her six children, who were attacked in their home in Dorayi Chiranchi on Saturday.

The incident had earlier drawn condemnation from the Kano State Government, with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf describing the killings as barbaric and ordering an immediate manhunt for the perpetrators.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature, the governor was quoted as saying, “We will ensure that everyone involved in this heinous crime is brought to justice,” while directing security agencies to intensify patrols and community surveillance across the state.

The police command commended residents for their cooperation and assured the public of its commitment to safeguarding lives and property in Kano State.
