Police arrest suspects for theft, criminal conspiracy, others in Sokoto

The Nigerian Police Force, Sokoto State command has arrested one Maishanu Auwal and two others for theft, and criminal conspiracy in the state metropolis.

This is contained in a press statement signed by the command spokesman, DSP Ahmad Rufai, and made available to newsmen in the state on Tuesday.

According to the statement, “It all began on January 17, 2025, when Ladan Muhammad, the Zonal Director of the National Broadcasting Commission in Sokoto, discovered a shocking theft at his office in Gagi Area.

“At approximately 2:50 PM, he arrived at the Unguwar Rogo Police Station to report the disappearance of several valuable items, including three KVA inverters, three 600 KVA inverter batteries, a fridge compressor, a brand-new tyre for the office bus, and a 32-inch LG television.

“Acting promptly on the report, the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) led a team of police officers to the scene. Upon assessing the situation, their investigation took a critical turn when they invited Mishabahu Auwal, a security guard at the office, for questioning. What followed was a confession that revealed a larger criminal conspiracy”

The statement further said, “Mishabahu admitted to collaborating with Ismaila Ahmad of Nakasare Area, who helped him steal the items. As the investigation widened, it was uncovered that others were involved in concealing and receiving the stolen goods. Yahuza Tukur and Abdulrahman Abbas, both from Nakasare Area, were arrested for assisting in hiding the stolen items. Meanwhile, Basiru Lawali of Kuffa Area, Murtala Tijani of Kwanni Area, and Abubakar Umar of Gangaren Kuffa Area were apprehended as the receivers of the stolen property.

He further said the Sokoto State Police Command, all the stolen items were recovered including the inverters, batteries, television, and other valuables. The suspects are now in custody, and preparations for their prosecution are underway.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Musa, commended the investigative team for their diligence and praised the public for their cooperation in bringing the perpetrators to justice.

He reiterated the importance of community support in enhancing police efficiency and assured residents that the suspects would face the full weight of the law.
