Free PoS devices for PLWDs in Osun by Governor Adeleke

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, will distribute free Point-of-Sale (PoS) devices to people living with disabilities (PLWDs) in the state as part of activities marking this year’s International Disability Day.

This was disclosed by the Executive Secretary, Osun State Health Insurance Scheme (OSHIS), Dr. Rasaq Akindele, on Monday while speaking to journalists in Osogbo, Osun State, on various initiatives designed to improve the lives of people living with disabilities in the state.

Akindele, who was flanked by the Executive Secretary, Osun Bureau of People Living with Disabilities, Ayobami Oyetunde, highlighted various initiatives implemented by the current administration, especially those that have PLWDs as the major beneficiaries.

The OSHIS boss said, “This time last year, our amiable governor not only enrolled all persons living with disabilities to enjoy free healthcare through OHIS, but also provided them with life-support gadgets ranging from ordinary and motorised wheelchairs, crutches, walking sticks, hearing aids, inhalers, infrared creams, glasses, and many more. Thousands of the PLWDs benefitted from that.”

He added that the distribution of the PoS machines to the PLWDs was part of the activities for the third anniversary of the Adeleke administration, noting that, “Before then, the governor has also enrolled all pensioners in the state for free healthcare through Osun Health Insurance Scheme (OHIS).”

“This year alone, the Agency has achieved the following:

School Eye Health Initiative

OSHIS successfully executed a statewide School Eye Health Programme for students in public primary and secondary schools, screening over 450,000 students across the state. A total of 45,120 students were diagnosed with vision-related issues, with 80% receiving appropriate interventions, including medical treatment and corrective lenses, while 20% received necessary surgeries.

Enrollment of Inmates in Correctional Centres

In a first-of-its-kind achievement in Nigeria, OSHIS enrolled 1,200 inmates from the Ilesa and Ile-Ife Correctional Centers into the Scheme. Both facilities, i.e., Ilesa and Ile-Ife Correctional Health Centers, were duly accredited, and capitation payments have been ongoing, guaranteeing sustained access to healthcare services for inmates.”

He said the media parley was held to, “Highlight yet another commendable gesture of our performing Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke Nurudeen Adeleke, in providing Point-of-Sale (PoS) devices and business firms to people living with disabilities in our state to mark the International Disability Day on 3rd December 2025, and as a show of love during his 3rd year anniversary of an impactful government.”

Oyetunde, while speaking at the event, lauded Adeleke for placing high premium on the issues affecting PLWDs in the state.

The PUNCH reported on August 27, 2025, that the Osun State Government announced the commencement of the enrollment of about 1,100 inmates at the Ilesa and Ile-Ife Correctional Centres into its free health insurance scheme.

The Executive Secretary of the Osun State Health Insurance Agency, Dr. Rasaq Akindele, disclosed this in Osogbo while speaking with journalists. He explained that the initiative followed a request by the State Controller of Corrections, Rotimi Olalekan, who appealed for government support in addressing the health needs of inmates.
