Ngige makes surprise appearance at APC meeting after bail

A former Anambra State Governor, Chris Ngige, on Thursday made a surprise appearance at the All Progressives Congress caucus meeting in Abuja, hours after regaining his freedom from the Kuje Correctional Centre.

Ngige, a former Minister of Labour and Employment, had been remanded in Kuje prison over alleged corruption charges filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

He was granted bail earlier on Thursday after meeting the conditions set by the court.

The former governor arrived at the State House Conference Centre shortly after the President had taken his seat for the meeting.

He was briefly stopped by security operatives before being cleared to join other party leaders.

Ngige is facing charges bordering on alleged abuse of office, including the granting of undue advantage to associates in the award of several contracts during his tenure as minister between 2015 and 2023.

He is also accused of corruptly receiving gifts amounting to millions of naira through organisations allegedly linked to him while in office.

The trial has been adjourned to a later date for continuation.
