The Vice-Chancellor of Bells University of Technology, Ota, Prof. Jeremiah Ojediran, has warned new students of the institution to eschew vices like drug abuse and cyber- bullying, to avoid rustication.
Ojediran gave the warning during the 21st Matriculation Ceremony of the institution, held on Saturday in Ota.
He explained that the university had zero tolerance for any form of drug abuse, cyber-bullying or physical bullying, adding that those found complicit would face the wrath of the institution.
He noted that the institution is interested in building students into a whole individual with full respect for their well-being and the opinions and rights of fellow students.
“The University’s management has approved on -the-spot tests for substance abuse, and any student who tests positive would bear the full brunt of the prescribed punishment,” he said.
The VC urged the students to obey the rules and regulations of the institution, and to verify all information before taking any action.
“There is a need for you to stay within the set of rules and regulations to prevent you from getting into trouble,” he said.
Ojediran enjoined the students to make good use of their time while in school, so as to impact on the larger society.
He noted that today’s event marked the conclusion of activities toward formalising their studentship in the citadel of learning.
The VC reiterated the university’s commitment to ensuring that students get the best of education, learning, and the acquisition of necessary skills that would make graduates relevant in society.
He urged parents to instil the spirit of hard work into their wards, adding that it is the only fulfilling way of getting true value in life.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that 1,900 students, comprising 1,107 undergraduates and 793 postgraduates, were matriculated for the 2025/2026 academic session.
