Taylor Budowich, the incoming deputy chief of staff for communications and personnel under President-elect Donald Trump, sharply criticized President Joe Biden’s last-minute pardons, describing them as a historic blow to the US justice system.

“Joe Biden’s final act as President will go down as the greatest attack on America’s justice system in history,” Budowich wrote on X.

“With the stroke of a pen, he unilaterally shielded a group of political cronies from the scales of justice. This is yet another dangerous and unreversible erosion of American norms.”

The pardons, issued Monday morning just hours before Biden left the White House, included clemency for Gen. Mark Milley, Dr. Anthony Fauci, members of Congress, and staff who participated in the House January 6 Select Committee. Capitol and D.C.

Metropolitan police officers who testified before the committee were also among those pardoned.
