Grade A Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, has dissolved the wedlock between a couple, Friday and Mary on the grounds of constant fight, public embarrassment, diabolic practices and abandonment by the latter.
Friday who brought a divorce suit against his wife said he gradually lost control over his home because his wife was impossible.
The plaintiff stated that his wife was intolerant and always ready to fight him not only at home but also in the public thus embarrassing him.
Friday also said that Mary was fetish and that he destroyed his life through diabolic means and her several curses.
According to him, as a result of this, life became difficult and unbearable for him.
He added that his wife in addition became defiant and regularly shed her responsibility towards him.
According to Friday, Mary among other things stopped cooking his food.
He added that Mary to his surprise once drew a knife at him during an argument.
Friday entreated the court to grant him custody of their only child.
He as well sought an order restraining his wife from threatening and interfering with his private life.
Mary refused to make an appearance in court despite being served court summonses.
Friday in his evidence said, “My wife has constituted herself a public nuisance.
“She not only comes to my house to fight me, but also my workplace and in the public thus embarrassing me.
“She abandoned me more than a decade ago after she succeeded in ruining my life through diabolic means in addition to her several curses.
“She ruined my once-lucrative business through her curse and left me struggling and eating from hand to mouth.
“I gradually lost my position as the head of the home after my businesses nosedive.
“My wife became defiant and snobbish. She stopped cooking my food.
“Mary constantly humiliated me and once threatened me with a knife during a misunderstanding.
“She later abandoned me, but still, she refused to let me be.
“She fights me anywhere and at any time thus making my life miserable.
“I earnestly plead with this honourable court to end our marriage and grant me custody of our only child who is with her sister.
“I desire to raise our child by myself.
“I also request an order restricting her from coming to my house or workplace to harass, threaten, fight or interfere with my private life.”
The president of the court, Mrs S.M. Akintayo, giving her judgment stated that the defendant was served a court summon and court hearing but that she refused to honour these, thus denying herself the opportunity to defend self.
According to her, it was proper for the court to grant the plaintiff the relief sought for.
