Anambra Teacher Wins N25m at National Teachers Summit


Anambra State has won the South East overall best in the 2026 National Teachers Summit award; the state also took second position at the national level.
The event, organised by the office of the wife of the President in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education, saw Chekwube Ifentike of Government Technical College, Onitsha, win the first of its kind award in the country.
Ifentike smiled home with a cash award of N25 million.
The event, which concludes today at the Banquet Hall, State House, Abuja, has the theme ‘Empowering teachers, strengthening the system: A national agenda for education transformation and sustainability’.
Reacting to the development in a statement on Wednesday, the Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, expressed joy that the commitment of the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, to the funding of Education has continued to yield the desired dividend.
“This is a demonstration that the commitment of the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, to the funding of education is yielding the desired dividends.
“The achievements represent the fruits of investments in Anambra State’s education sector. We congratulate the awardee, Chekwube Ifentike, for doing the state proud, while charging other teachers to replicate the gesture,” Chuma-Udeh added.
Punch Online on October 6, 2025, reported that nine schools in Anambra State won awards at the 2025 President’s and Schools’ Excellence Awards as part of activities marking World Teachers’ Day.
The event, held at Eagle Square, Abuja, saw Woliwo Primary School II, Onitsha, win the award for the “Overall best school in Nigeria” and go home with the star prize of a 16-seater bus.
Among the other awardees is Pinkberry International School in Odume Obosi, which received the award as the first runner-up, the best approved private primary school in Nigeria.
Emmanuel Ndibe of St. Theresa’s Secondary School, Enugwu Ukwu, won the first runner-up for best approved private senior secondary school teacher in Nigeria, while Nkechi Ikedi of Pinkbery International Primary School, Odume Obosi, won the first runner-up for best approved private primary school teacher in Nigeria.
