Jang debunks rumours of defection from PDP

A former Governor of Plateau State, Senator Jonah Jang, has denied reports of his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to either the African Democratic Congress or the Social Democratic Party.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his media consultant, Clinton Garuba, the former governor described the reports as “fake” and stressed that he remains a member of the PDP, a party he helped to found.
“While the former Governor would have ordinarily dismissed the so-called news item as yet another attempt by mischief-makers, it is imperative to state that, as a founding member of the PDP, Senator Jang remains in the party of pride of the Nigerian people – the PDP.
“Even though the PDP is going through turbulent times, it is his firm belief that the numerous ongoing court cases will bring an end to the various crises in the PDP and return it to the pinnacle of Nigerian politics.
“Distinguished Senator Jang strongly believes that the PDP will put its past behind it and reclaim its pride of place,” the statement affirmed.
The denial comes after social media was awash with speculation about Jang’s alleged defection, with some reports claiming he had joined either the ADC or SDP.
Our correspondent reports that last week, the All Progressives Congress announced the defection of Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, a protégé of Jang, from the Peoples Democratic Party to the ruling party.
The announcement was made by the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, during the party’s 14th National Caucus meeting held at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja.
Since then, the governor’s defection has sparked intense debate among political analysts and party followers, making Jang’s statement necessary to set the record straight.
