The Governing Council of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has terminated the appointments of two staff members over acts constituting misconduct, disciplinary lapses, and dereliction of duty.
According to a statement by the Polytechnic’s Director of Public Relations and Protocol, Uredo Omale, the council approved the dismissal of Mr Mukhtar Muhammed, an Administrative Officer II, for sexual molestation. Similarly, Mrs Funmilayo Afolabi, an Assistant Chief Executive Officer, was relieved of her duties after absconding from work for nine months.
The disciplinary actions were among decisions taken at the 72nd regular meeting of the governing council, presided over by the chairman, Sani Shaibu, on Friday, at the polytechnic’s council chamber.
Council also approved the demotion of Mr Audu Mathew, a Deputy Registrar, to the rank of Principal Assistant Registrar over negligence of duty.
Meanwhile, the meeting also saw the council endorse the promotion of 572 teaching and non-teaching staff, among whom are 11 principal lecturers promoted to the rank of chief lecturers.
For the 2024 promotion cycle, 49 academic staff and 71 non-teaching staff were approved, while 225 academic and 227 non-teaching staff were cleared for promotion in the 2025 exercise.
Shaibu commended the polytechnic’s management for upholding discipline, transparency, and academic integrity, warning that the council would not tolerate actions undermining the institution.
He urged staff to strictly adhere to rules, regulations, and professional ethics, assuring continued council support to position Kogi State Polytechnic as a centre of excellence.
In his address, the Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, Prof Salisu Usman, thanked council members for their commitment to the institution’s growth, stability, and governance.
Usman highlighted its recent achievements, including the timely release of student results, enhanced campus security, successful payment of Earned Academic Allowances for staff of the School of Management Studies and the School of Applied Sciences, and the provision of a new borehole to improve water supply on campus.
He also informed the council about the discovery of a result forgery syndicate involving one Mr Henry Tope, who was found in possession of 30 forged statements of results and an original certificate bearing the institution’s insignia.
In addition, Usman announced the appointment of Mrs Glory Ojochogwu Yakubu, Deputy Registrar (Senior Establishment), as the substantive Registrar of Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara.
He also lauded the Governor of Kogi State, Usman Ododo, for providing an enabling environment that has strengthened academic stability, infrastructural development, and institutional progress.
