The Edo State Government has assured citizens who recently returned from South Africa following xenophobic attacks of its commitment to their reintegration, security, and economic empowerment.
Speaking while receiving the returnees in Benin City, the Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Edo State, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, described the xenophobic attacks in South Africa as unfortunate and welcomed the returnees back to their homeland.
She conveyed the goodwill of Governor Monday Okpebholo, assuring them that the administration remains committed to protecting the lives and welfare of all Edo people through the SHINE Agenda.
According to her, the Governor operates a zero-tolerance policy against crime and is focused on creating a safe, peaceful, and prosperous Edo State where citizens can thrive through education, employment, and empowerment.
Edo First Lady assured the returnees that the government would facilitate their reintegration into society and encouraged them to remain focused and contribute positively to the development of the state.
She further stated that qualified returnees would be considered for employment opportunities, while others would benefit from empowerment programmes designed to help them rebuild their lives.
“There is no place like home. We welcome you back and encourage you to be law-abiding citizens as we work together to develop Edo State,” she said.
The Coordinator also commended the Director-General, Edo State Migration Agency, Dr. Lucky Agazuma, describing him as a passionate, hardworking and dedicated to the welfare of migrants.
Earlier, the Director-General, Edo State Migration Agency, Dr. Lucky Agazuma, said Governor Monday Okpebholo had put in place the necessary mechanisms to ensure the successful reintegration of all returning migrants into society.
He noted that the government’s intervention is aimed at restoring hope, providing opportunities for self-reliance, and ensuring that returnees become productive members of society.
Speaking on behalf of the returnees, Mr. Omijie Isinero expressed gratitude to the Edo State Government for the warm reception and the support extended to them, pledging their commitment to making meaningful contributions to the development of the state.
