Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has announced plans to construct what he described as Nigeria’s largest inter-state bus terminal, aimed at transforming mobility, security and economic activity in the state.
The governor disclosed this on Sunday while performing the groundbreaking ceremony for the Ultra-Modern Inter-State Bus Terminal along the Eastern Bypass in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Sani said the project, which will occupy 20 hectares of land, is designed as a dual terminal with the capacity to accommodate over 5,000 vehicles, supported by intelligent traffic management systems and advanced surveillance infrastructure.
According to him, the terminal will be fully accessible, with escalators and elevators to cater for the elderly and persons with disabilities.
“The facility will also include refuelling stations for petrol, diesel and compressed natural gas, positioning Kaduna State at the forefront of sustainable transport innovation,” the governor said.
He added that a three-star hotel would be built within the complex to serve travellers, drivers and visitors, describing the terminal as “a fully integrated mobility ecosystem that is safe, efficient, transparent and future-ready.”
Sani said the project would serve as a major economic catalyst, noting that its location along the revitalised Eastern Bypass would decongest the city centre, improve connectivity and enhance security surveillance.
“Thousands of direct and indirect jobs will be created for drivers, technicians, artisans, traders, service providers and young entrepreneurs within the economic ecosystem this terminal will generate,” he stated.
The governor said investment in modern transport infrastructure would also address structural vulnerabilities that fuel crime and insecurity, stressing that the project would reinforce peace and stability in Kaduna State and the wider North-West region.
He explained that the terminal was designed to consolidate scattered, unsafe and unregulated motor parks into a single, professionally managed and technology-enabled facility.
“This will strengthen regulatory oversight, restore confidence in public transport and guarantee the right of every citizen to safe and dignified mobility,” Sani said.
The governor recalled that the state government had deployed 100 free CNG buses since mid-2025, which he said had conveyed more than 1.4 million passengers and saved commuters nearly ₦1.5bn in transport costs.
According to him, the initiative has reduced household spending, lowered emissions, eased traffic congestion and improved daily mobility for workers, students and traders.
Sani also disclosed that the state had completed 200 modern bus stops, while the Kakuri Modern Bus Terminal was 90 per cent completed and the redevelopment of Sobawa Motor Park stood at 50 per cent.
He further announced that by March 2026, the state would commence construction of the Kaduna Light Rail Project, comprising a 30-kilometre Red Line, a 20-kilometre Yellow Line and a 24-kilometre Bus Rapid Transit corridor.
The governor said the state’s transport reforms had earned national recognition, noting that Kaduna ranked second for sustainable urban mobility at the National Urban Mobility Conference held in Abuja in January 2026.
