The Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has approved the constitution of a high-powered committee to investigate the long-abandoned Kebbi State Governor’s Lodge and hotel project in Kaduna State, signalling a renewed push for accountability in public infrastructure management.
The decision, conveyed through the Office of the Secretary to the State Government to Yakubu Tafida, follows growing concerns about the project’s fate, which dates back to the former military administration and has remained dormant for years.
According to the approval, the committee is tasked with ascertaining the legal status of the project, determining whether the contractor ever reconciled with the Kebbi State Government, as earlier advised by the then Solicitor-General, after the contract was revoked, and establishing the current condition of the abandoned site.
The panel will also probe the circumstances leading to the contract revocation, identify the reasons for the project’s abandonment, and verify both the initial and revised contract sums awarded for the project.
The committee is chaired by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Birnin Kebbi. Other members include the Special Adviser on Due Process, Surajo Bagudo; the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Lands and Housing, Ahmad Yarima; and the Director of Architecture and Building, Ministry of Works. The Director, EXCO, Kabiru Wasagu, will serve as Secretary.
The committee has been given two weeks to conclude its assignment and submit a comprehensive report to the state government.
Idris reiterated his administration’s zero tolerance for waste and neglect of public assets, stressing that abandoned government projects must be thoroughly reviewed and decisively addressed in the best interest of the people of Kebbi State.
The move underscores the administration’s broader commitment to transparency, accountability, and due process in governance.
