Man arrested for illegal firearm possession in Akwa Ibom

The Police Command in Akwa Ibom said it has detained a 38-year-old man for alleged unlawful possession of a firearm, threat to life and possession of suspected illicit substances.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, disclosed this in a statement issued in Uyo on Tuesday.
John said the arrest and detention of the suspect followed a report by a resident of Ikot Akpa Ntuen Village in Ukanafun Local Government Area of the state over an alleged threat of violence.
“Acting on the report, operatives of the command swiftly mobilised and apprehended the suspect.
“During a search, the suspect was found in possession of one locally made pistol, one live cartridge, and substances suspected to be illicit drugs,” John said.
The police spokesperson said the suspect was currently in police custody, while investigations were ongoing to ascertain the source of the firearm and the extent of the suspect’s activities.
She added that the suspect would be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
The PPRO reiterated the command’s zero tolerance for crimes involving firearms and other threats to public safety.
She assured residents of the command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
“Members of the public are encouraged to continue to support the police with timely and credible information that will aid crime prevention and detection,” she said.
