Nigerian Army Foils Kidnapping, Rescues 3 Victims in Taraba



Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, have foiled a kidnapping attempt and rescued three victims in Taraba State.

In a Tuesday statement signed by Umar Muhammad, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, the Army said the operation was carried out on January 5, 2026, following the receipt of credible intelligence by troops deployed at Jeb Jeb town on the activities of suspected kidnappers in Sangai Village, Bachama Ward of Karim Lamido Local Government Area.

“Acting promptly on the intelligence, troops were immediately mobilised and pursued the suspects towards the border area between Taraba and Plateau States.

“On sighting the advancing troops, the kidnappers abandoned their captives and fled into the surrounding area,” the statement read.

The Army said three victims, 25-year-old Nimron Umar Ab, 20-year-old Safaras Ibrahim, and 23-year-old Habila Yunusa, were rescued during the operation.

“The rescued victims are currently in military custody, where they are receiving necessary care and documentation, after which they will be reunited with their respective families,” the statement read.

Commending the troops, the Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, reaffirmed the brigade’s commitment to sustaining operations across the state.

“He further urged members of the public to continue to support security agencies with timely and credible information, noting that such cooperation remains vital to the success of ongoing military operations,” the statement read.
