Olubadan Sets Up Panel to Probe Onido of Ido Dispute

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, on Monday inaugurated a three-man panel on the Onido of Ido traditional stool in Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The panel, inaugurated by the Olubadan at the palace in Oke-Aremo, Ibadan North Local Government Area of the state, has the Osi Olubadan, Oba Biodun Kola-Daisi; the Ekerin Balogun, Oba Mobolaji Adewoyin; and the Aare-Ago Balogun, Chief Lateef Akintola, as members.

PUNCH Online reports that residents and stakeholders in Ido town had recently raised fresh concerns over the lingering Onido of Ido dispute, revealing that the community is currently faced with three individuals claiming the throne nearly two decades after the crisis began.

Addressing journalists in Ibadan, the leader of the group, Sarafadeen Adeyeye, called on Governor Seyi Makinde and the Olubadan of Ibadanland to urgently intervene.

He said, “At the moment, Ido is in a very delicate situation because we have three different people claiming to be the Onido, namely Oba Benjamin Ademola Ishola Orobiyi II, Tajudeen Akinola and Muritala Babalola. This is unhealthy for any community.”

Ido Local Government was among the five local governments in the Ibadan District before the arrangement was abolished in 1956.

Oba Adewoyin, while briefing journalists on behalf of the Olubadan-in-Council at the end of the meeting, said, “The panel will be chaired by the Osi Olubadan, Oba Kola-Daisi. Chief Akintola will serve as the secretary and member, while the Ekerin Balogun, the acting chairman of the Ido Traditional Council, will serve as a member.”

In his response, the committee chairman, Kola-Daisi, said the work would start immediately and urged the public to provide the panel with useful information.

The panel has one month within which to receive submissions and present its report.
