Rivers deputy gov dumps PDP for APC

The Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Professor Ngozi Odu, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.

Odu’s defection comes more than a month after Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the majority of state and federal lawmakers from Rivers State left the PDP for the APC.

She completed her registration formalities on Sunday at Akabuka, Ward 8, Unit 11 in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of the state and thereafter undertook the tour of the six zones of the LGA to sensitise the people on the ongoing APC e-registration exercise.

This was contained in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Monday by the Head of Press Unit, Office of the Deputy Governor, Owupele Benebo and made available to newsmen.

Addressing stakeholders shortly after her registration, Odu explained that the APC’s e-registration exercise was ongoing following Fubara’s declaration of his decision to join the party a few weeks ago.

She also urged residents of the area to demonstrate their support for President Bola Tinubu and the governor by registering massively with the APC.

“The move is to further strengthen the support base of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Siminalayi Fubara,” she said, noting that six zonal meetings had already been held to facilitate the plan.

“Today, I came to sensitise the people, and everywhere we went, there were large crowds who came out to receive us. They said wherever I go, they will go with me; and wherever Governor Fubara and President Tinubu go, they will go.

“You can see the joy and happiness. I have touched all the six zones — Egi, Omoku, Osomini, Igburu, Egbema and Ndoni,” Odu added.

Odu described the development as a boost to the APC strength in the LGA, adding that it is a sign of increasing grassroots alignment with the leadership of President Tinubu and Governor Fubara.

The statement further said a major highlight of the tour was the defection of hundreds of Labour Party members in Ndoni to the APC, all of whom expressed delight at joining the party fold.
