US attack: Nigeria must strengthen security – Kano APC chieftain



A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Kano State, Hon. Najash Abdulhamid Babura, has said the reported United States military strike against Islamic State and other terrorist elements in Sokoto State on Christmas night underscores the gravity of Nigeria’s security challenges and the urgent need for decisive action.

In an exclusive interview with Arewa PUNCH on Monday, Babura, who said he is from Jigawa State, while opening up on critical national and state issues, as well as his personal ambitions and philanthropic efforts, stressed that the foreign military intervention was long overdue.

According to him, “the US military strike against ISIS and other terrorists in Sokoto on Christmas night was an action that signals a strong collaborative approach to counterterrorism.

“This, I believe, would strengthen Nigeria’s security framework,” he stated.

Continuing, he maintained that “while the strike was a positive development, it must be complemented by robust domestic policies to address banditry and insurgency across the North.”

Speaking further, Babura, who is one of the leading politicians in the state and doubles as a businessman in the real estate sector of the nation’s economy while lamenting the bad state of the country, bemoaned the persistent killings and banditry, as well as recent incursions into Kano State.

“I need to stress the importance of proactive governance, well-equipped military operations, and effective intelligence sharing,” for the country to put a total stop to terrorism and banditry.

“As much as I  have justified the US military action as a measure that complements Nigeria’s own security operations, these military actions must ensure that civilian lives are protected,” Babura warned.

Reflecting on the Kano State administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s leadership, Najash Babura expressed support for the governor,  citing his developmental initiatives, transparency, and commitment to youth empowerment.

“I urge the governor to continue focusing on infrastructural development, education, and effective governance while maintaining inclusiveness in policy implementation,” he said.

A member of the All Progressives Congress Najash Abdulhamid Babura has been an advocate for youth empowerment, community development, and progressive leadership.

Arewa PUNCH reports that he contested for a seat in the House of Representatives, representing the Garki/Babura Federal Constituency of Jigawa State.

His political focus includes improving education, agriculture, and infrastructure within his constituency and the wider region.

On his personal political ambitions for 2027, Najash revealed that he remains committed to public service and is considering re-entering the political arena.

He emphasised that his previous contest for the House of Representatives has strengthened his resolve to contribute meaningfully to his constituency and the nation.

As a philanthropist, Najash, who He is married to Sakina Ibrahim Marafa, highlighted his ongoing efforts to support community development projects, educational initiatives, and job creation programs across Jigawa State.

He said these initiatives reflect his dedication to giving back to society and promoting sustainable development.

While setting the records straight concerning his next political moves, Najash Abdulhamid Babura disclosed that he was born on September 24, 1991 in Kano State, Nigeria, to Alhaji Abdulhamid Abdullahi Babura and Hajiya Halima Abdulhamid Babura.

However, he explained that he is originally from Babura, a Local Government Area in Jigawa State, and belongs to the Hausa ethnic group.

A graduate of the Bayero University, Kano, he pointed out that he began his primary education at Kano Capital School in 1995, completing it in 2001, and attended Prime College, Kano, from 2002 to 2008 for his secondary education.

Contrary to widespread misconception, the businessman cum politician added that in 2008, he enrolled at the Bayero University, Kano, where he studied Agricultural and Environmental Engineering, graduating in 2014.

He later obtained a Postgraduate Diploma from the Dangote Business School.

Arewa PUNCH reports that Najash Abdulhamid Babura began his professional career in the foreign exchange sector, offering regulated currency exchange and remittance services.

He later expanded into international trade, exporting Nigerian goods to foreign markets before he diversified into real estate investment and development, focusing on residential and commercial projects that promote urban growth and job creation.

Through his business ventures, he pointed out,  “I gained a reputation for transparency, innovation, and commitment to sustainable economic development.”

Looking ahead to the New Year, Najash urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and supportive of security agencies while encouraging peace and unity.

“I’m optimistic that the country’s military and security structures would continue to strengthen and provide safety for citizens nationwide.”

Babura concluded by sending best wishes to all Nigerians, saying, “I wish every Nigerian home and abroad, a prosperous, peaceful, and united New Year, even as I urge everyone to uphold the values of civic responsibility, collaboration, and national development.”
